Pride Basketball League NYC


As stated in Article II, Section 2 of the PBLNYC By-laws, the Board requires the following positions:

  • Men’s+ League Commissioner

  • Women’s+ League Commissioner

  • Men’s+ A Division Vice Commissioner

  • Men’s+ B Division Vice Commissioner

  • Men’s+ C Division Vice Commissioner

  • Women’s+ A Division Vice Commissioner

  • Women’s+ B Division Vice Commissioner

  • Women’s+ C Division Vice Commissioner

  • Treasurer

  • Secretary

  • Director-at-Large (four positions)


Each league has the discretion to determine the responsibilities of each officer.



Description of Mens’+ Division Officers

Commissioner

The Commissioner is responsible for the general supervision of the affairs of the PBLNYC, and will keep the Board fully informed on all League activities. The Commissioner has the power to sign alone, unless the Board requires an additional signature, in the name of the NYCGBL all contracts authorized either generally or specifically by the Board. Additionally, the Commissioner is responsible for creating a schedule for the season, securing gym space for the season, hiring referees for the season, negotiating contracts with vendors, securing sponsorships, etc.

Vice Commissioners for Each Division

The Vice Commissioners shall have such powers and duties as may be assigned to them by the Board. In the absence of the Commissioner, the Vice Commissioners will perform the duties of the Commissioner in addition to the following: select captains, update captains manual, run new player evaluations, schedule scorekeepers for their division, run the draft, send weekly emails to captains, manage and respond to player concerns, interpret rules, ensure score sheets are available and completed each week, etc.







Description of Women’s+ Division Officers

Commissioner

Additionally, the Commissioner is responsible for creating a schedule for the season, securing gym space, hiring referees, negotiating contracts with vendors, securing sponsorships, etc.

The Vice Commissioners shall have such powers and duties as may be assigned to them by the Board. Description of Non-League-Specific Officers

Treasurer

The Treasurer will keep full, accurate accounts for PBLNYC. They are responsible for depositing, paying, and recording all transactions that the league requires. At each meeting, the Treasurer will present the financial status of all accounts. The treasurer is also responsible for keeping a yearly budget, preparing necessary tax filings, preparing IRS documents for referee payments, paying vendors, overseeing the collection of registration fees, reconciling bank accounts, and maintaining the Directors’ and Officers' insurance policies, etc.

Secretary

The Secretary will keep complete, accurate minutes of all official PBLNYC meetings. They organize, distribute, communicate, and manage all official league records. At each meeting, the Secretary will present the minutes from the prior meeting and the agenda for the current meeting and ensure that the Board follows Robert's Rules of Order. The Secretary will also complete other duties as assigned by their respective Commissioner.

Directors at Large

Directors at Large shall serve the needs of the PBLNYC by assisting with the following: scheduling open plays, ordering team jerseys, securing sponsorships, planning league social events, ordering end-of-season awards, maintaining the PBLNYC’s website, sending league emails and correspondences, maintaining and updating League’s social media accounts, etc.
